Volleyball’s Week of Victories: October 2nd-6th
This week was full of successes for Newman’s volleyball team. On Tuesday, the varsity team traveled to Lafitte with JV White to play Fisher. Both teams were very successful, winning by large margins on the road. Varsity defeated the Gators in only three sets and went home poised for an exciting but busy week. In addition to the away game on Tuesday, there was a home game on Thursday against Sacred Heart. As one of the biggest games of the season fell during Spirit Week, fans packed the stands to support the girls and rival the ASH crowd that always seems to bring the noise. The team was down by two sets, but with the help of a rowdy student section, Newman continued to fight hard and climb back up, tying the Cardinals at two games each. The last set to 15 points was a nail bitter as every point went back and forth to each team. However, the final set ended with a score of 19-16 and the Newman student section ran on the court the congratulate the players as soon as the whistle blew. Congrats, Volleyball, on a great win and good luck in upcoming games against St. Martins and Barbe!
