The Roosevelt Hotel Lobby Lights
A New Orleans holiday tradition returns this year at the Roosevelt Hotel in the Central Business District to celebrate the 125thanniversary of the hotel through its’ annual holiday décor. Generations of New Orleanians have made a tradition of taking photographs at the gorgeous hotel during the holiday season. The tradition started in the 1930’s and originally consisted of lots of greenery and flowers. Since then the holiday display has been modified numerous times to fit the style of the decade. The decorations received their most recent change in 2009 after an extensive renovation of the hotel. The current display is made up of 44 Birch trees with more than 22,000 lights. Continuous for the entire length of the hotel lobby, the light display stretches the length of an entire city block. In the hotel bar, there is also an intricate gingerbread house featuring a replica of the lobby lights. As you might imagine, the lobby is often packed with tourists and locals alike admiring the lights and snapping Instagram worthy pictures. It is also a favorite spot for wedding photos. The display was lit up at an official ceremony on November 27thand it can be seen until January 2nd.
