Vandebilt Catholic Volleyball Tournament

This past weekend, the Newman Varsity and JV teams competed in the Vanderbilt Catholic Tournament in Kenner. This tournament was hosted at the Ponchartrain center, with six different courts playing at all times. Both volleyball teams fought hard, yet varsity only won one of four games, defeating Westlake on Saturday morning. JV also won a hard-fought three-set game against St. Scholastica, becoming their first win of the tournament. This was the JV team’s first tournament and it could not have been a better start.

While waiting for Newman’s turn to play, the Varsity team was able to watch other great match-ups play, including Sacred Heart and Dominican and E.D White and Teurlings Catholic. Friday, Varsity faced a talented Mount Carmel team and St. Amant, the first and second seeds in their pool. Saturday afternoon, Terrebonne competed and defeated Newman’s Varsity as well.  Saturday, in the game against Westlake, varsity played an impressive game, forcing the other team to lose in two.  The Vanderbilt Catholic tournament is always stacked, with teams from all over the state coming to the Ponchartrain Center to compete against one another. It was a freat opportunity to participate in the tournament and play against such tough competition.
