Update on Disney Plus: The Fate of The Lizzie McGuire Reboot Is Uncertain
In a previous article, I admitted to not being extremely impressed with Disney Plus and its current streaming options. However, I have definitely been excited to watch the “Lizzie McGuire” reboot that I’m sure everyone is looking forward to or interested in. If you didn’t watch “Lizzie McGuire” when you were younger, did you even have a childhood? But recently the creator of the show, Terri Minksy (who was also the creator of the original series), has left after filming just two episodes. For now, production is in limbo.
But what does this mean for the show? Hopefully production will quickly return so that the late 2020 release date is not delayed too much. It can also be assumed that the plot of the show is being reevaluated. The original outline of the new series followed Lizzie in her thirties working her dream job in New York City. It would immediately begin with Lizzie moving to Los Angeles. What was so special about this plot is that it included returning stars from the early 2000’s version. Recognizable characters like Gordo and Lizzie’s family were to play a significant role in her second journey. Personally, this reboot and the collection of iconic Disney Channel shows from our childhood are the reasons I have Disney Plus. I would hate to see any harm come to a show with such great potential and nostalgia. Although the future of the “Lizzie McGuire” is somewhat up in the air, one can only hope for the best.
