MLB Playoffs
Earlier this month the MLB playoffs began: ten teams made the playoffs, but only one
will be crowned champion.
The playoffs kicked off with the Wild Card game of the Red Sox
versus the Yankees. The Red Sox got off to a hot start with a 2-run home run in the first inning.
Later in the 3rd inning the Sox kept on rolling, expanding their lead to 3-0. In the top of the 6th
inning, however, the Yankees slowly began to claw back a solo shot to put them within 2. They
earned that run right back in the bottom of the 6th as a double to deep right field put them back
up 3. Later in the 7th inning, the Sox poured it on as a single scored 2 runs, making the score 6-1.
In a last effort comeback, a solo shot in the 9th made the score 6-2. However the rally wasn’t
enough as the Red Sox closed out the end of the game to advance to the ALDS and will face off
against division rival, Tampa Bay Rays.
In the NL wild out west in Los Angeles, the Dodgers face off against the underdog Cardinals. The game got off to a quick start as the Cardinals scored first on a wild pitch. Later in the Fourth inning the Dodgers hit a solo blast to tie the game. The action cools off as the game becomes a pitching duel and neither team can score a run. This changes however, in the bottom of the ninth the Dodgers come up clutch with a walk off homer that moves them forward to the NLDS and a date against the division rival, San Francisco Giants. The divisional series began on October 7th with Astros beating the White Sox swiftly with a score of 6-1 to lead the series by one game. Later the same day the Rays shut out the Red
Sox with a score of 5-0 to win the series opener. The next day on October 8th games begin with
the Astros again taking care of business of White Sox with a score of 9-4 and being one game
away from the sweep. Continuing the Milwaukee Brewers win a close pitchers duel against the
Braves with a score of 2-1. In the next game the Red Sox came roaring back in game two against
the Rays with a score of 14-6. In the last game of the night the Giants shut out the Dodgers and
cruised to a game one win with a score of 4-0 to go up one game. On October 9th games began
with the Braves shutting out the Brewers in a close game with a score of 3-0 to even the series to
1-1. Next the Dodgers answer back with a commanding win over the Giants that ended with a
score of 9-2, to even the series. On October 10th the Rays and the Red Sox play a game that
spans 13 innings, but eventually ends with a walk-off home run by the Red Sox to win the game
and take the advantage in the series. Next the White Sox comeback against the Astros in a
dominant win of 12-6. October 11 begins with a 2-0 shutout by the Braves against the
Brewers to take a one game advantage in the series. Following that game the Rays and Red Sox
take part in a close game until the bottom of the ninth where the Red Sox walk it off on a
Sacrifice fly to win, 6-5, and to the series, and advance to the ALCS. In the Last game of the day
the Giants won a close game against the Dodgers, where the only run came from a solo homerun
in the 5th inning. On October 12th the Astros won the series over the White Sox with a dominant
10-1 win, to advance to the ALCS against the Red Sox. Following that game the Braves won a
close game, thanks to a solo home run in the bottom of the 8th inning that propelled them to a
5-4 win, and a date in the NLCS. In the last game of the divisional round the Dodgers won the
series in a close game that ended with a score of 2 to 1, and sent them to the NLCS against the
Braves. To begin the ALCS the Astros open with a win over the Red Sox with a score of 5-4. On
October 16th, the Red Sox came back strong with a dominant win over the Astros with a score of
9-5. Following that game the Braves won on a walk off single to win 3-2 to take game 1 over the
Dodgers. The next day the Braves once again won on a walk off single to 5-4 and took game 2
over the dodgers. On October 18th, the Red Sox destroyed the Astros, thanks to a grand slam early
on in the game, and took an advantage in the series by one game. The post season continues this
week as the championship series closes and the World Series approaches.
