US Open and The Defeat of Serena Williams

Bianca Andreescu, a 19 year-old Canadian playing Serena Williams in the US Open, foiled William’s attempt at claiming her 24th grand slam title to tie with Margaret Court atop the all-time chart. The American fans, inside of the Arthur Ashe Stadium, were all blatantly rooting for the Williams, but Andreescu did not back down.

The Ontario-born player easily took the first set 6-3. She was up in the second set 5-1. The crowd thought it was going to be a blow out, but Williams came back and made the score 5-5. Andreescu, however, remained determined to not let Williams take the second set. She regained focus, and on her third match point she took Williams’ 74 mph second serve and blasted a forehand Williams could not return to secure her win.

Bianca Andreescu’s confidence is radiant both on and off the court. She isn’t scared of any opponent that is on the other side of the net. She plays the ball and she plays to win.
