At the beginning of September, Mrs. Walden left for her maternity leave, and we welcomed a new teacher: Mr. Brister took over Mrs. Walden’s honors and regular geometry and precalculus classes until she returns.
Mr. Brister was born and raised in New Orleans. He received his bachelor’s degree in Science and Math Education from Xavier University of Louisiana. Afterward, he received his master’s degree in Science in Applied Mathematics from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. Lastly, he returned to Louisiana to teach at De La Salle High School and McDonogh 35 High School.
Arriving at Newman, his favorite things have been the people he has interacted with. The teachers and students he has met have been helpful and supportive. In addition, he hopes to share his love of math with his students and help them become more curious about the subject. One of his favorite things to do is help his students learn math and create that love of math.
Mr. Brister has many hobbies he enjoys, such as roller skating, playing basketball, and playing video games. Through his time in New Orleans, he has developed a love for the food here. In addition, he loves the fact that he is so close to his friends and family. Currently, his favorite artist is Kendrick Lamar.
Mr. Brister is happy to be here for the time he is at Newman, and is excited to meet new people in the halls!
