Mr. Brett Ohler teaches Government and Economic Systems and World History. He started his teaching career during COVID-19 and then worked in a law firm before he came to Newman. His favorite thing about Newman is the community — in particular, the students: “How involved the students are, how engaged students are at every moment of the day; it feels like the students are more busy than even the teachers someday. That’s honestly my absolute favorite part, just how friendly and happy everyone is.”
Since working at Newman, his biggest motivation has been his students: “There are some days where I’m not having a great day, but when I’m in class teaching my students — it’s my biggest burst of energy, its what I’m most excited to come to school for.”
In high school, his favorite class was his Junior Year English class because it helped foster his love for writing. A book that greatly impacted him was “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley. Something he’s passionate about is how he can be most helpful to the community around him–however small or big his impact may be–and his patience. This patience is an accomplishment he is proud of because he strives to have more and more patience each year. In his free time, he likes trying new activities and things he hasn’t done before, spending time with his dog, and playing “Magic the Gathering” with his brothers.
We’re delighted to welcome Mr. Ohler as part of our History Department this year!
