Homemade Hot Cocoa
As the days feel longer and the weather gets colder, we all want to go home and snuggle up to a warm treat. With exactly thirteen days until winter break, we look forward to the lazy days full of food and rest. What’s better than a sweet cup of hot chocolate to warm you up? Here is a simple recipe you and your family can make on chilly days:
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup hot water
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 4 cups milk (Dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Combine the cocoa, sugar, water, and salt in a medium saucepan.
- Over medium heat, stir constantly until the mixture boils. Cook, stirring constantly for 1 minute.
- Stir in the milk and heat, but do not boil.
- Remove from the heat and add vanilla; stir well. Serve immediately.
NOTE:
If lactose intolerant or interested in being different, both vanilla soymilk as well as almond milk are both delicious ways to change it up!
