Girls Basketball Countdown to the Playoffs
After over a decade of not having a Varsity Girls Basketball team, your Newman Girls Basketball team is back in action and lively as ever. Going into district games, Newman was ranked in sixteenth in power-points in the division. On January 5th, they entered their first district game since pre-Katrina and beat South Plaquemines High School at home. Yesterday (Jan. 22), after an hour and a half drive, they faced off with South Plaquemines High School away, and were able to beat them yet again with a score of 50-44. The starting line-up was Katherine Vogt, Diamond Holmes, Bailey Nelson, Trinity Williams and Audrey Singer. Significant contributions were also made by Eliza Nieset, Bria Joseph, and Shoshana Cohen. Taking stats for the game was Lily Moise and Shereese Verret and Alli Trapp and Anjaleah Domino were filming. They will play another district game, tomorrow (Jan. 24) against St. Katherine Drexel High School at four in the Palaestra. Other games this week include the Thursday (Jan. 25) game against Benjamin Franklin High School at 5 away, and Friday (Jan. 26) against Lusher at 5 away.
