The Newman Boys Soccer Team was winning 1-0 at halftime in a home match against Brother Martin. It was a great first half for the Greenies, but the entire game changed with a poor second half performance.

Newman came out strong early, and the team was able to get a goal from senior Sam Moses around 10 minutes into the game. Newman continued a strong performance in the first half, completing 70% of their passes and winning 60% of the 50/50 balls. Newman went into halftime confidently and were ready to close out the game.

Coach Tooraj Badie started the same team that had played in the first half in the second half. Exhaustion and injuries became a problem halfway into the second half, right after a tying goal from Brother Martin. Junior Janusz Wojcik exited the game, as well as freshman Will Hardie, leaving both the midfield and defense shorthanded.

Brother Martin was able to capitalize upon Newman’s adversity, and the Greenies fell short in their attempt to tie up the game.

Newman looks to finish the season strong with games against Patrick Taylor (1/25), St. Paul’s (1/27), and Jesuit (1/29). Winning these games will be crucial, as it could give the team home field advantage in the state playoffs.
