Definitely the biggest game on the Newman football team’s schedule this season was against Divison rival, St. Charles Catholic. Last Friday, November 6th, the Greenies took on the Comets for an epic competitive throwdown. The team knew that it was going to be a tough and much-needed win, in order to push the greenies closer to securing a number one seed in the playoff bracket. The win against St. Charles Catholic was huge. It contributes to the football team’s path to making history because our program hasn’t defeated the Comets in 22 years. The media portrayed St. Charles to be a powerhouse with no weaknesses, but Captain Sterling Scott knew that wasn’t the case. He said that the greenies paid attention to “every intricate detail of their playing style”, which ultimately gave our football team their winning edge. The Greenies could very well see the St. Charles comets again in the playoffs; however Sterling believes that the confidence they gained by winning would lead to a similar outcome when it really matters. This is one special season for football and the Greenies are making strides towards their ultimate goal: state champions.
