Two weekends ago, the Greenies went to City Park for a XC meet! Newman hosted the meet, which commemorates the memory of our beloved Coach Randy Zell and all he did for the running program at Newman. This specific meet was renamed after Coach Zell given 27 years dedication to the school and his incredibly large impact on each runner he coached and the team as a whole. While XC often focuses solely on the running aspect of the sport, Coach Zell provided so much more than just a filled coaching spot. He created long lasting and meaningful relationships, not only with other coaches, but with every runner on the team. Coach Zell created an amazing running program that is filled with lush championship culture and strong bonds held through his former support. The Newman running program would not be the same without him, so the meet is meant not only as a means to compete for Coach Zell but also as a way to honor his impact on our program.
