Art for Arts Sake

Art+for+Arts+Sake

Art for Art’s Sake has been around New Orleans for nearly three decades and has grown into one of the most popular art events in the city. Each year, on the first Saturday of October, the Magazine Street Merchants Association presents the event, where galleries all along Magazine and Julia Streets open up to the public for a night of good company, music, food, and of course, art.

This year, the fun-filled evening took place on October 5th from 5-9 PM with no entrance fee. Over 100 establishments, including stores, restaurants, and galleries, along Magazine Street, took part in the affair, which is also a fundraiser for the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center. In addition to restaurants, pop-up drink and food stands appeared to accompany the different forms of entertainment. Throughout the evening, people could walk up and down Magazine and enjoy a wide range of artistic expressions, from traditional paintings to live street performers.

Overall, Art for Art’s Sake is a fantastic annual New Orleans event that shows off the entertainment-rich community existing on every street and corner. If you haven’t already been, I would seriously consider grabbing some friends and family to check it out next year!
