Hollywood Is Back At It

Production resumes following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Once Union members vote to ratify their agreement, the SAG-AFTRA strike will finally reach its cessation. While it began to seem like the strike would become interminable, SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP finally reached a deal on November 9th, 2023.

Now that writers have ended their strike and are returning to work, many shows and movies will finally resume production. TV shows like Stranger Things, Yellowstone, NCIS, and Grey’s Anatomy are expected to resume production shortly. In addition, films that studios pulled from release, such as “Dune: Part Two”, will hopefully be in theaters soon.

One result of the strike is that it prompted other labor groups in the entertainment industry to unionize. For example, Walt Disney Studios production workers and visual-effects workers in Disney’s Marvel division voted to unionize. The unionization of these groups as well as others could lead to additional strikes which could once again stop production in Hollywood.

Personally, I am excited to ditch the reruns and return to watching my favorite shows as they release. If you have a favorite show, it might be worth doing some research to find out its production plan and when it might be available to resume watching!
