On October 29, 2025, the Newman swim team traveled to St. Martin’s to compete in the District Championships Meet, earning impressive time drops, new qualifying swims, and second-place overall for the girls.
With a strong start from the girls’ 200 IM relay team of Vivian Zhou ‘26, Morgan Breaux ‘26, Frances Mann ‘27, and Adaeze Okaye ‘30, placing second, and the boys team of Noah Kornman ’29, Michael Breaux ’30, Alex Nasr ’29, and Turner Mazzanti ’26 placed 3rd.
This went right into the 200 Freestyle, where Charlotte Norwood ’27 took 2nd place, dropping two seconds, and earned her Metro qualifying time, followed by Captain Morgan Breaux ’26 in 3rd place.
In the 200 Individual Medley, Captain Vivian Zhou ’26 dropped four seconds to place 3rd and qualify for Metro, while Amelia Cho ’30 finished 4th and earned her first State qualifying time of the season.
The 50 Freestyle brought more excitement as Adaeze Okoye ’30 sprinted to the first 1st place and a Metro time, while Lily Dravid ’27 placed 3rd with a fast finish, and the 100 Butterfly featuring another wave of incredible time drops—Madelyn Argote ’27 placed 2nd, dropping four seconds and qualifying for Metro; Frances Mann ’27 took 3rd, dropping six seconds; and Cho ’30 placed 6th, dropping four seconds and achieving another State cut.
In the 100 Freestyle, Zoila Linares ’27 earned 3rd place with a three-second drop, while Zhou ’26 posted another personal best in the 500 Freestyle, finishing 3rd and dropping an impressive eight seconds.
The final individual events brought even more highlights. Dravid ’27 dominated the 100 Backstroke, taking 1st place, dropping four seconds, and qualifying for Metro. In the 100 Breaststroke, Breaux ’26 and Okoye ’30 finished 2nd and 3rd, both earning Metro times.
The meet finished with a thrilling swim from the Girls 400 Freestyle Relay by Okoye, Breaux, Norwood, and Zhou, who dropped an incredible 13 seconds to take 1st place. This Meet showed the swimmers their own potential for not only the Metro Meet on November 7th and 8th, but also the State Meet on November 19th and 20th.

With Districts behind them, the Greenies now turn their attention to the Greater New Orleans High School Swim League 2025 Metro Championships on November 7–8, 2025, and the Last Chance Meet at Newman on Thursday at 3:30 PM, where they will have their last opportunity to make times for the State Meet. The team’s dedication, teamwork, and steady improvement promise an exciting finish to the season.
