Freret Street is where most seniors, who eat off campus, go for lunch. Jackie and I visited some of the new spots on Freret. The first one we visited was Cinaholic, a cinnamon roll shop with fun and unique flavors. Both of us really enjoyed the cinnamon roll we had, it was not dry and had really good flavors. They also have a build your own cinnamon roll on their menu, which includes many different toppings and icings to truly customize your cinnamon roll to you.
Pita Paradise was a delicious Mediterranean restaurant with many opinions for food. They also have vegetarian opinions and their prices are really great. They also have many good deserts, a favorite being their baklava. The restaurant is quite small but they do have seating for groups up to about 4. Jackie really recommends this place for you if you are in the mood for a hearty meal!

We also did a poll of what the seniors’ favorite spots are for breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, the seniors overwhelmingly rated Humble Bagel as the best breakfast spot. Humble bagel, founded by Casey Mackintosh and Tara Mikhail, serves fresh bagels, drinks, and breakfast sandwiches. Senior Tripp de Laureal says: “I chose Humble Bagel because it’s really consistently good. I normally order a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel.” The seniors rated Mint as unmatched for lunch, and I have to agree. Mint, founded by Johanna von Geldern and her daughters Katriel and Cagney Houlihan. Mint serves a combination of traditional Vietnamese food like pho and bhan mi, and a modern fusion of Vietnamese food, like their pork belly tacos and kimchi burger. Vivian Zhou, a senior at Newman, shares why she rated Mint so high: “I love Vietnamese cuisine, so I’m always super stoked to have Mint so close to us. It’s my go-to place to go with my friends before any concert or show. Although it’s a little expensive for every single day, I think the food is amazing and the portions are really good. The boba there never disappoints!” Overall, there are many amazing spots on Freret Street for any time of the day, and as a school, we are so lucky to have them so close to us.
