Indoor Track Season Update

Indoor Track is one of the more unknown sports that Newman offers. It’s often thought of as the preseason for Outdoor Track, but Indoor participates in competitions of its own. The Indoor team is smaller than the Outdoor track team because many students who play other winter sports are unable to join until the spring season. Indoor track meets are smaller too: the track is only 200 meters long as opposed to a regular Outdoor Track that’s 400 meters long. A smaller track means more turns, which can slow sprinters down, but athletes still perform incredibly at Indoor meets. The number of students at the Indoor meets can be the same as an Outdoor track meet because teams travel from outside New Orleans and Louisiana to compete.

This week, Newman’s Indoor Track team went to Lake Charles, LA to run at McNeese State University’s High School Indoor Track Meet. The team spent the whole day running, warming up in between races, and cheering on their teammates; it was a fun experience for the Indoor team! This Indoor season has seen many personal best from athletes, and an exceptionally exciting school record in the 3200 meters (2-mile race) of 11:35 from Mikayla Rulh!
