Newman Invitational Tournament

Newman+Invitational+Tournament

This weekend, the varsity volleyball team competed in the annual Newman Invitational Tournament. On Friday night, they played in the Tuohy gym against Assumption and lost. They then went upstairs to the Palaestra to play Barbe where they won in two sets. After Friday night’s games, the team placed 2nd in their bracket, meaning they would play the rest of the tournament in the Paleastra rather than the hot and dreaded Tuohy.

On Saturday, Newman played three different teams: Ben Franklin, Fontainebleau, and Belle Chase. Newman defeated Ben Franklin, one of their biggest rivals, in a hard fought match that went into three sets. However, one of starters, senior Kayley Hill, injured her ankle and was out for the rest of the day. The team faced adversity as people were forced to play unfamiliar positions and, unfortunately, they lost to Fontainebleau and Belle Chase. Despite the tough losses, the team played well overall and showed major growth and improvement throughout the tournament.
