Cross Country: District Championship

On Thursday November 2nd, the boys and girls varsity cross country team competed in the 2A district championship. The girls team placed 2nd, finishing behind a strong McGehee team. Individually, senior Mikayla Rulh finished in 1st place; also earning All-District honors was senior Jessi Rulh. Junior Grace Payne also ran hard, finishing with a new career personal record. On the other side, the boys finished 1st overall. This was the 22nd consecutive district championship for the boys team. A number of boys ran well enough to earn All-District honors, including senior Conor Zura who finished 1st individually, as well as seniors John Gainey, David Freeman, and Grant Carey. Juniors Robert Freeman, Aidan Thionville, and sophomore Gabe Labadie were among underclassmen who earned All-District honors. Robert Freeman, Gabe Labadie, and freshman David Luongo all ran new career personal records. Running new seasonal best times were David Freeman and junior Garrett McNamara. After everyone finished racing, both teams headed over to the Newman Band Stand for a senior presentation. There, they recognized all of the graduating seniors who are concluding their final year in the program.

To conclude the season, numerous members of the team will travel to Natchitoches, Louisiana for the 2A State Championships on Monday, November 13th.
